Raising a family in Vancouver is expensive, so we’ve been searching for small ways to save. Recently, we discovered Karrot, an app that allows you to buy and sell items. You can also list items for free and even find free items on the app! We’ve been using it to rehome our pre-loved items and are excited to share how easy it is to use this free app.
Since moving to our house, we’ve had clothes and toys that our kids have outgrown, along with unused kitchen gadgets collecting dust in our storage. Finding the time to clear them out has always been hard. We finally decided it was time to organize our space and Karrot was the perfect platform for giving and selling items. One of the first items we chose to list on Karrot was a pair of shoes my daughter hardly wore when she was younger. They’re in excellent condition and perfect for another child to enjoy, so I decided to list them on Karrot for $10. Considering that she only wore them once or twice, getting something back for them would be nice – plus it helps reduce clutter at home. This marked our first post on Karrot and using Karrot was quite easy. First, we found a well-lit spot outside, snapped a few photos, and listed the shoes. I like how Karrot organizes the important details like location, category, price, and condition.
I always knew Vancouver has a lovely family community, with many generous families posting children’s items for free. Karrot lets you search for free items within specific categories. You can easily find what people have posted for babies and kids. You’d be surprised by what you can find—someone recently posted a kid’s bike for free!
Teaching our kids about sustainability is extremely important to us. We strive to live on a greener planet and remind our kids that we don’t need many things, only what is essential. We always try to give our items a second life by selling them, giving them away, or donating them to others who can use them. This practice helps teach our kids the importance of helping the environment by reusing and recycling. For instance, our children have learned to give their old toys to other kids when they no longer want them. Karrot is an excellent option for passing on second-hand items, which helps reduce waste and minimize our environmental footprint.
I’m always cautious about meeting strangers, so I always arrange to meet in an open space during the morning or afternoon when it’s light outside. I never meet them at my home and always inform my husband of the exact time and location. One thing we love about Karrot is the extra layer of safety it provides. Karrot’s verification process is designed to build trust and safety within the community and users are required to verify their accounts through location confirmation. I had to verify my location before I was able to post – it was quick and easy to do! It’s nice to know that users do live in the community and Karrot has verified this. Even though I still follow my own protocols, it’s reassuring to know that Karrot offers additional security through their user reviews and verification system.
I’ve been using Karrot for the past few weeks and love how you can boost your items to get more views. You can also indicate when you’ve discounted items that aren’t selling. I’ll definitely be posting more items on Karrot and am excited about building my community.
