Tips for Canada Day 2026 in Metro Vancouver

  • Take transit. Parking is limited at almost every event. Coquitlam and North Vancouver are an easy SkyTrain ride. Langley has a free shuttle from KPU. Surrey and Burnaby both have nearby stations.
  • Bring sunscreen and water. Most events run for hours in full sun with very little shade at the bigger amphitheatre venues.
  • Plan around road closures. The Steveston, Abbotsford, and Maple Ridge parades all come with temporary road closures. Build in extra travel time.
  • Know your fireworks start times. Most shows start around 10:00 or 10:15 pm, which is a big ask for younger kids. West Vancouver, Squamish, and Granville Island wrap up before dark, much easier on little ones.
  • Expect bigger crowds this summer. With the FIFA World Cup running in Vancouver through July, transit will be busier than usual, especially downtown and near Granville Island.
