Vancouver Staycation

Even though many families are staying local, there are many ways to spice up the summer. One way would be to check in at a local hotel in a different city. This will give your family a fun opportunity to explore other local cities – plus who doesn’t love staying in hotels! We made a list of family friendly hotels and they all have awesome pools!

Richmond

Fairmont Vancouver Airport

Whether you’re looking for a unique staycation experience, or hoping to catch your breath before a long day of family travel, Fairmont Vancouver Airport is ready to welcome you. Parents can relax in luxury accommodations while the kiddos enjoy mesmerizing views of airside operations at YVR (and don’t worry, the soundproofed floor-to-ceiling windows and blackout curtains will ensure nap time is a breeze). Once you’re ready to leave the comfort of the room, check out the hotel’s main restaurant, Globe@YVR, for kid-friendly dining options and even a junior version of their famous Afternoon Tea. Kids ages 5 and under eat free from the children’s menu, while kids ages 6-11 eat for 50% off when dining from the regular menu. For even more family travel perks (including 50% off your second room), check out Fairmont Vancouver Airport’s Family Travel offer: https://bit.ly/3kZqvXI.

Surrey

Civic Hotel

Civic Hotel is your summer staycation destination with the fam! This modern hotel offers bright, multi-bed guest rooms in the heart of Surrey City Centre. As a guest, you can splash around in Surrey’s favourite outdoor lap pool and whirlpool hot tub. You can also cool down right outside of the hotel in the seasonal water park fountain in Civic Plaza. Our signature restaurant, Dominion Bar + Kitchen, offers a kids menu for little ones and delicious New Canadian dishes for parents. Don’t feel like leaving your room? No worries! Order Dominion on Demand right up to your hotel room. There are also lots of freshly baked treats at Prado Cafe, located in our hotel lobby.

Surrey City Centre is filled with family-fun activities near Civic Hotel.

  • City Centre Library is located right across the plaza from the hotel, and offers virtual and in-person kid events.
  • You can get your shop on with two nearby options. Central City Shopping Centre, is only a 5-min walk from the hotel and has 140 retail stores and services. Or for even more options, Guildford Town Centre is only a six minute drive, with over 200 stores and services.
  • There are nearby parks in Surrey City Centre where you can stretch your legs. Holland Park, Royal Kwantlen Park, and Whalley Athletic Park are all within walking distance.

Downtown Vancouver

The Hilton Hotel

We got to chat with Keisha from Loving Littles Blog about her Staycation at The Hilton Hotel in Downtown Vancouver.

Well, as a family travel blog, this year has really taken a turn. With little travel but a big itch to explore we really started to pick our brains in search of something fun, travel like and close to home. We nailed it. A night with The Hilton Vancouver Downtown with the little ones and exploring Robson Street. One of my favourite streets to walk on in Vancouver. There is just so much to do and see!

The kids had a blast and having some quality time with them was the best. I really need to do it more often. We unpacked in our two bed bedroom, unwound for a minute or two and off we went to see what kind of fun we could get into!

Places visited included:

  • Robson Street
  • The Candy Room
  • Indigo Kids
  • The Cactus Club
  • Breakfast LADUREE

After all of that excitement they were starting to get a wee bit tired. Back to the hotel we went. We settled for a little bit then of course we ventured to the rooftop hot tub and pool. The Westin Grand pool is one of our most favourites. It’s all outdoors and the pool is heated. It is so warm and fun to play in even if it’s raining out. Which it was!

I can’t think of a better way to spend time with these little ones. The quality time spent with them was just what we needed to refuel for the week. Being alone with mama just gives them all the feels! Sometimes getting away and changing up the scenery even when it may be close to home is all you need to refuel for the coming weeks. We enjoy the extra amounts of “yess’s” while away and late nights binging on movies and treats. Sleeping in and throwing away any schedules or routines just for the stay away!
