Whistler holds many fond memories for me and my husband. Whistler was my first getaway with my friends after prom and my husband celebrated his bachelor party there years ago. It was also where my friends and I celebrated our 30th birthdays by going skydiving. I didn’t expect it’d be a decade later before we would visit again, but time truly flies by and we were super excited to bring our family to explore Whistler.

Transportation

Driving to Whistler from Vancouver is actually quite short at around two hours (depending on traffic). There are also a lot of fun spots to visit on your way to Whistler such as:

If you would like to relax in nature or do a hike before Whistler, there is

  • Alice Lake
  • Stawamus Chief
  • Whistler Train Wreck

Hotel Stay & Food

There are many accommodation choices in Whistler – from chalets, cabins to hotels. We chose to stay in a hotel because the kids love swimming and we wanted to be in the village to make it easy to get food, drinks, and dessert. During our stay, we didn’t try many restaurants – normally we would explore the food scene, but it was really busy and most restaurants were packed. We did mostly take out, but the most memorable things we tried were the treats and desserts. We mostly went to Pure Bread for snacks & treats. Though we have Pure Bread in Vancouver, we never visited any of them, so we were excited to try everything on their menu and we weren’t disappointed. The kids loved everything!

It’s also our tradition to go to Cows to get ice cream when we’re in Whistler. There is always a long line up, so expect to wait 10 to 15 minutes but it does go by quickly. Lastly, the kids favourite place was The Great Glass Elevator Candy. They had many different type of candies, and the kids loved exploring and selecting a handful of candies to try.

There is an adorable playground in the middle of Whistler Village for the kids to play. Around the playground, you will find the Olympic Rings. Don’t forget to take photos in front of them!

Family Friendly Activities

There are many things to do in Whistler from hiking to excursions. We partnered up with The Adventure Group, who offers a variety of fun family activities such as zip lining, family rafting, and an aerial obstacle course.

We did their RZR Tour with the family and this was the highlight of the trip. The kids loved it! The scenery and stops were breathtaking and we took so many beautiful photos. Their favourite was going off-roading and getting splashed when we went through the muddy sections. It was smiles and laughter throughout the tour. As per my husband, “driving our car feels so boring now.” You can check out our reel and the breath taking view we saw during the RZR Tour: https://www.instagram.com/p/CScUQVynlAA/

We ended the night going to Vallea Lumina. We drove to Cougar Mountain Basecamp, which was around 15 minutes away from Whistler. When we got there, we sat by the fire pit where we roasted s’mores which we purchased at their concession stand. Soon after, we went on our journey, unsure what to expect. We knew we had to follow the lighted marked paths that was left by “two long-ago hikers.” The goal was to find these two missing hikers. While we were looking for clues, we discovered a magical forrest, filled with unexpected music and lights. It was truly a magical experience that captivated our family and a wonderful way to end the night. I would recommend wearing gripped runners for walking up & down the trail and be mindful of mosquitos. Otherwise, have a magical time!! Can’t wait to hear what you think!! If you love playing in the water, there are many gorgeous lakes around Whistler. Here’s a list of some of our favourite lakes:

  • Alta Lake
  • Lost Lake
  • Nita Lake
  • Green Lake
  • Alpha Lake

We look forward to adventuring in Whistler again. There are many activities I would love to try during the Winter and Summer seasons!
